AGENCY TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY
Phoenix Homes is a ‘Can Do’ agency rising to the challenge of providing innovative treatment foster care to disadvantaged youth. Phoenix Homes’ fundamental philosophy is that every youth deserves a chance to evolve and resolve the issues that brought them to us. We believe that every youth and his or her family can be taught to make responsible decisions through positive interactions, education and treatment. We teach this process through the examples of our Primary Treatment Facilitators (PTF’s, otherwise known as Treatment Foster Parents) and by providing counseling and psychotherapy through individual, group and family work. Further, we provide a family environment that enhances our youth’s strengths and moves them as quickly as possibly to permanent living arrangements.
Phoenix Homes believes that positive relationships improve treatment efforts and fosters therapeutic interactions during a youth’s placement in the Phoenix Program. At the basic level, this is accomplished through a process of matching our youth to appropriate PTF’s and regular counseling sessions (to address basic concerns/needs) with the PTF and the Family Treatment Coordinator (FTC, otherwise known as a social worker). More complex psychological issues are addressed through our mental health services, either through referral and/or other wraparound services. While we provide thorough professional services we believe the relationship while in treatment, between the youth, PTF and FTC is the most critical factor. This relationship is the focus of all our treatment efforts. Due to the importance of this responsibility, we are committed to providing the best possible training in treatment modalities and techniques to our PTF’s and staff.
Phoenix Homes practices a team approach to treatment and therefore involves the youth, PTF, Phoenix staff, agency workers and Primary family, when appropriate, in all phases of planning and treatment of our youth. We offer advanced training in treatment and counseling skills such as Reality Therapy, Choice Theory, and Rational Emotive Therapy. In addition we train our staff, as well as our PTF’s in cognitive restructuring and Love and Logic. All of the aforementioned strategies are accomplished through weekly visits from the FTC’s and counseling with the PTF and the foster youth, and additionally through participation in quarterly treatment reviews of the Individualized Service Plan (ISP).
These Treatment Approaches are the philosophical basis for the treatment of our youth and families in our care.
